Mike McNeely, Leo Smith and Brad Hughes did a great job of presenting the challenge and ideas for increasing connections throughout the community. There was a lot of discussion about the need for churches to "encourage" their members to register. Lot of minority emphasis discussed and ways to get blacks part of "our" machine. Following are some of the suggestions:
"Go where people are and make a consistent effort talking about issues, respecting what THEY have to say."
"They can't hear what you have to say if your aren't there."
"Speak to THEIR situation, speak to where THEY are."
"Black people trust the Judeo-Christian ethic. Speak to this."
With young people, "talk about people other than Reagan . . . ones THEY can relate to."
